Erasure

2021 - 01:29

Neo-classical art is steeped in queer erasure. Despite the movement being built upon the very openly queer societies of ancient Rome and Greece, the Georgian and Victorian mindset eradicated all tellings of the queer nature of alot of the classical arts. This denial of queer presence, however, has been used by the queer artists and collectors of the Neo-classical movement to express their homosexual love and desires without raising suspicion, giving them plausable deniability of their true homosexual feelings, claiming it as a mere love of art.

Erasure draws parallels between this hidden language of art with that of the secret language of Polari. Illustrating the ever present struggles that queer people have endured throughout the last thousand years of our society.

This film combines animated glacier-porcelain with pixilation and manipulated live action footage.
